Ardmore Little Theatre

Hairspray

Performances July 21-23 at 7:00 p.m. July 24 at 2:30 p.m.
July 28-30, 2011

at the Goddard Center

Based on the popular 1988 John Waters movie, Hairspray takes a cartoon-like swipe at many sticky social situations of the 60’s -- racial segregation, popular kids versus the outsiders, fat versus fit, kids versus parents, over-reacting cops and political favoritism -- with a lot of comedy, catchy tunes and plenty of fancy footwork.

On Broadway, the big-cast musical carried away the 2003 Tony awards by winning eight, including best musical.  The show ran for six years and was also on tour until recently when rights were released for school and community theatre performances.

Directing the show will be Doris Simpson of Dallas, who earlier this year directed ALT’s standing-room-only musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.  Also reprising responsibilities from that show, Alison Scott of Ardmore will be orchestral director and Jeanne Simpson of Los Angeles will handle choreography.  Susan Yeager of Ardmore, who directed last summer’s production of Cinderella for ALT, will be vocal music director.
